Q: What is the National Youth Gathering?
A: The National Youth Gathering is an event held every three years for youth of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) to spend time together in worship, God’s Word, prayer, song, and service. The Gathering provides young people an opportunity to learn more about God, Christianity, and their Lutheran identity. This event, which is the single largest LCMS event each year, is organized by LCMS District and Congregational Services—Youth Ministry office in St. Louis. A: Gathering merchandise including polos, tee shirts, caps, water bottles and other items are available at discounted prices through the on-line Gathering Store.
Q: How can I purchase a live recording of the Mass Events House Band?
A: With the purchase of the I Believe Student Devotional Journal for $14.99 customers get an I Believe Music Card that enables them to download songs by the Gathering House Band recorded live in New Orleans during mass events at the National Youth Gathering. The song list Includes "Say, Say” "Let it Rise” and eight others, plus the Opening Signal. Use the card to download the music to your computer, iPod, or other mp3 device. A: Go to www.lcms.org/youth and click on the link for Eutychus Youth Outreach Grants. There, you'll find everything you need to know! Q: How was the theme for the 2010 Youth Gathering selected?
A: The theme for the 2010 National LCMS Youth Gathering is "We Believe," based on John 20:31: "But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." (ESV) About this theme, Rev. Terry Dittmer, Director for Youth Ministry notes, "Gathering participants always share how much it means to encounter other students who ‘believe like I do’ as part of the National Gathering. We Believe is a wonderful, corporate expression of our faith in Jesus Christ, especially as we focus on the creed and our confession as we take that faith to the New Orleans community in Word, celebration, service, witness and fellowship." Theme development planning included the staff of the DCS Youth Ministry Office, the 2010 Gathering Executive Team and invited "creative experts," including Rev. Joel Lehenbauer of the Synod’s Commission on Theology and Church Relations. Dr. Michael Middendorf will serve as adviser for the planning of the 2010 event.
Q: I have been looking for video of the Mass Events online but I am unable to find it. Will the Mass Events be put online?
A: Mass Events will not be placed online due to contractual and copyright agreements that we must follow. We are currently working on the Post-Gathering DVD and Media Pass; they will both contain elements of the Mass Events.
Q: When and how will I be able to get a Post-Gathering DVD and Media Pass?
A: The Post-Gathering DVD and Media Pass are currently in post production and will be made available this fall. Each participating congregation will receive a Post-Gathering DVD and additional copies will be made available to order through the Gathering Store. The Media Pass will be made available through the Gathering Store in the fall.
Q: What is the Media Pass?
A: The 2010 National Youth Gathering Media Pass allows youth and their leaders to create their own personalized Gathering media using elements gathered by the Gathering Media Team. The video, photos, backgrounds, and wallpapers on this DVD are available to use for bulletins, signs, programs, presentations, videos, and more.
