Young Adult Volunteers play a huge role in making the Gathering a successful and memorable experience! YAVs serve as role models for the teen participants while working in specific areas of the Gathering. These include Experiential Centers, Mass Events, Interest Centers, Bible Study, Traffic/Safety Support, Hotel/Night Life, and Servant Events.

If you applied to be a Young Adult Volunteer, you should have been notified via email and received an email with information about your service. If you have not received an email and did apply to be a Young Adult Volunteer please contact us.

Frequently asked questions from Young Adult Volunteers...

What time do I need to be in New Orleans on July 15, and what time can I leave on July 21?

YAVs should arrive in New Orleans by 5:00pm on July 15.  That way you will have enough time to get from the airport to the hotel (if flying), check in at your hotel, and be ready for the YAV event starting at 7:00pm.

All YAVs will be done serving at the Gathering by 3:00pm on July 21.

If I will be over 21 during the gathering but am under 21 now, which part of the medical form should I get signed?

If you will be 21 at the time of the Gathering, your parent/guardian does not need to sign the medical form.

Who do I write the check out to?

Make checks payable to the LCMS Youth Gathering.

 Can I request a roommate?

The Gathering Office is NOT accepting roommate requests.  Part of the YAV experience will be to meet new people. If you have friends who will also be YAVs, your chances of seeing them during your time in New Orleans is very good.

What do I do if I want to come to New Orleans early (before July 15) or stay later (after July 21)?

Housing arrangements will need to be made. All YAVs will be provided housing at a New Orleans hotel. You can stay at that same hotel for an extended time at your own expense. (The hotel rate will be around $125 per room per night, not including taxes.) Contact the Gathering Office by April 15th, and we will book your reservation. You can call or email us:  800-248-1930 x1155, nygyav@lcms.org. You are also welcome to make your own housing plans outside of the July 15-21 dates.
